DISTRIBUTION. — New Caledonia: Nouméa , off Nouville, Ilot Goéland, live in 10-15 m.

DESCRIPTION. — Shell up to 5.1 mm long, slender, slightly curved, fragile, thin, translucent with regular opaque white patches, clearly visible growth lines. Maximum diameter close to peristome. Apex dorsoventrally compressed, with dorsal and ventral lobes, the ventral one larger than the dorsal one. Preapical callus simple, lumen circular. Mouth circular.

Measurements of holotype: L 5.1, W 0.5, w 0.21.

REMARKS. — This species differs from the other four Dischides species in the area by its slenderness and because its maximum diameter is close to the peristome. Dischides viperidens ( Melvill & Standen, 1896) , the commonest littoral species of New Caledonia, is smaller, its maximum diameter located within the anterior 1/3 of the shell and the lobes are as not so well defined. Dischides yateensis Scarabino, 1995 is larger and thicker, possessing a prominent preapical callus and a laterally compressed anterior aperture. Dischides prionotus ( Watson, 1879) and D. dichelus ( Watson, 1879) , two species with a wide distribution throughout the southwest Pacific and the Indian Ocean, have a more fusiform shape. The only species with which D. belenae could be confused is D. minutus (Adams, 1872) from the Gulf of Aden, but D. belenae is more slender.

ETYMOLOGY. — Named after the author’s granddaughter, Belén.
