DISTRIBUTION. — Vanutatu and New Caledonia, shells in 288-360 m.
DESCRIPTION. — Shell up to 4.1 mm long, translucent white. Maximum diameter close to centre of shell. In lateral view, ventral side curves evenly, dorsal side has an alternating slightly concave and convex outline. Dorsal view fusiform. Apex simple, section oval, dorsoventrally compressed. Preapical callus conspicuous, with 2 protuberances, one dorsal, the other ventral, smaller, giving an 8-shaped lumen. Mouth oblique, slightly laterally compressed. Apex slightly larger than the oral aperture.
Measurements of holotype: L 4.15, W 1.1-1.0, mouth 0.55-0.45, w 0.60-0.45.
REMARKS. — Cadulus lemniscoides is similar to Cadulus deverdensis (described above) but in C. lemniscoides the posterior 1/5 is shorter, the dorsal concave outline from the mouth to the maximum diameter is more pronounced, and the mouth is dorsoventrally compressed. The most distinctive character of C. lemniscoides is the 8-shaped lumen (fig. 3j).
ETYMOLOGY. — Greek, lemniscos (noun): ribbon. The name highlights the form of the preapical callus.
