Habitat. Intertidal to subtidal, 0 to approximately 10 m deep, reef flats, seagrass beds, and reef slopes, on sandy, sand-mud, rocky, coralline, and soft bottoms.
Remarks. Yap-Chiongco (1938) and Estampador (1937, 1959) report both C. latens and C. terrae-reginae from the Philippine waters. Calcinus terrae-reginae was synonymised with C. latens by Grant & McCulloch (1906).
Calcinus latens is apparently a species complex, with three distinct forms found in Hawai’i, the Gulf of Oman, and the wider Indo-West Pacific region ( Malay & Paulay, 2010). This species complex is very abundant throughout its range, and occupies a wide variety of different habitats.
