Type species. Cicada serricosta Germar, 1834 ( Brazil) View in CoL .

Remarks. The genus is distributed over much of southern South America. Records of specimens collected in Argentina, Brazil, Guyana, Venezuela, and Uruguay have been published ( Metcalf 1963a; De Santis et al. 2007; Sanborn 2007a; 2013).
