Measurements. total length: 14.0–20.1; head length: 1.9–2.8; head width: 3.0–4.0; pronotal width: 8.4–13.0; abdominal width: 7.6–10.4; length of antennal segments. I: 0.7–1.1; II: 0.8–1.9; III: 1.3–1.8; IV: 2.6–4.9; V: 3.0–4.4; interocular distance: 1.6–2.0; scutellum length: 6.3–9.9; scutellum width: 4.9–7.1; pronotal length: 3.1–4.4.
Diagnosis. head and pronotal disc green, sometimes with small yellow calli ( Fig. 19E View FIGURE 19 ); scutellum and corium ferruginous ( Fig. 19E View FIGURE 19 ). Posterior stripe of pronotum reddish brown; punctures concolorous to light brown on disc and black on posterior stripe ( Fig. 19E View FIGURE 19 ). Anterior part of scutellum with punctures on dark spots. Connexivum green to reddish brown. Body ventrally with many yellow little calli ( Fig. 19F View FIGURE 19 ). Cicatrices of pronotum with concolorous punctures delimiting anterior sulci. Anterolateral margin of pronotum not punctured. Scutellum with apex punctured. Corium with black spot of costal margin reaching approximately 1/3 of corial vein extension. Dorsal surface of abdomen yellow with brown transverse stripes ( Fig. 19F View FIGURE 19 ). Connexivum with black punctures concentrated in excavated areas separated by undeveloped callosity. Connexival segments with posterior margin dark including segment VII ( Fig. 19E View FIGURE 19 ). Body ventrally coarsely rugose. Male ( Fig. 9 View FIGURE 9 A–C). Pygophore with dorsal rim widely excavated ( Fig. 9A View FIGURE 9 ). Superior process of genital cup rounded, small, concave ( Fig. 9B View FIGURE 9 ). Paramere elongate, anterior lobe truncated, posterior lobe rounded and barely developed ( Fig. 9B View FIGURE 9 ). Proctiger with narrow, shallow transverse excavation; excavation densely setose; posterior face ogival and concave ( Fig. 9B View FIGURE 9 ). Ventral rim central excavation shallowly excavated; expansion small and rounded almost reaching level of posterolateral angles in ventral view ( Fig. 9C View FIGURE 9 ). Female ( Fig. 9D View FIGURE 9 ). Gonocoxites 8 usually with some yellow calli; posterior margin sinuous, lateral angle with a small tooth adjacent to a small yellow conical protuberance. Gonapophyses 8 barely exposed.
Comments. Dallas (1851) described Edessa triangularis but did not related it to any species. Stål (1859) cited affinities between E. scabriventris and E. quadridens . Breddin (1904a) described E. leprosula based on a female from Rio Grande do Sul ( Brazil) and indicated its similarity with E. quadridens and E. scabriventris . In this work, the species E. scabriventris and E. leprosula are synonymized with H. triangularis . The names leprosula and scabriventris are related to small whitish callosities that covers the body of these species, which gives a granular appearance, such condition is unique in Edessinae . However, this characteristic varies among populations, and may even be absent. The male is described here for the first time.
Distribution ( Fig. 22 View FIGURE 22 ). FRENCH GUIANA; BRAZIL: Pernambuco, Bahia, Alagoas, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, Paraná, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul.
