Lectotype (designated by Matzke-Hajek 1993):— ITALY. Vinadio , 22 July 1809, ‘ Rubus velutinus DC’, De Candolle s.n. ( G). ( Fig. 5 A, B )

= R. lloydianus Genevier (1861: 26) .

Distribution in Armenia: Zangezur floristic region. In light forests, forest edges, shrubberies, on open slopes, at an altitude of 1100–2000 m above sea level.

Phenology: Flowering June–July, fruiting July–October.

General distribution: Caucasus, Europe, Mediterranean, Anatolia, Iran.

Section 4. Apiculati Focke (1902: 451).

Annual shoots short, arcuate, often prostrate, cylindrical or slightly angular, with almost equal prickles, admixture of bristles and stalked glands; leaves green below, or at least upper leaves and inflorescences axes felt-pubescent; direction of the sepals in fruits is variable.
