Distribution in Armenia: Lori, Ijevan, Aparan, Sevan, Zangezur floristic regions. Grows at forest edges, amongst shrubberies, on stony slopes, at an altitude of 950–2500 m above sea level.
Phenology: Flowering (May) June–July; fruiting July–August.
For the Aparan floristic region, the occurrence of R. saxatilis is reported for the first time.
General distribution: widespread species, distributed in Caucasus, in temperate zone of Eurasia (with an exclave to East Greenland), from Europe to Japan in the east with isolated islands of stands in Altai and the Himalayas.
