ROMULUS CRAMER, 1775 View in CoL

Pap[ilio] Eq[ues] Achiv[us] romulus Cramer, 1775: 67 , 154, pl.43, A [original plate 93, fig. A]. ‘Côtes de Coromandel’; Ceylon (Baron Rengers)

Papilio Eques View in CoL Achivus romulus, Stoll, 1782b: 3 [No. 17].

Material examined. No potential Cramer specimens located.

Remarks. This could be one of the species sent to Rengers by Drury (see above). The annotated BMNH copy of the sale catalogue of Drury’s collection ( Donovan, 1805) shows that a specimen of Papilio romulus was sold to Haworth as part of a lot of 14 specimens. Although Cramer would not have seen this specimen (Drury apparently sent only duplicates to Rengers and did not expect them to be returned), it could well have been from the same source as the type specimen(s).

Current status. Valid subspecies of Papilio polytes Linnaeus, 1758 ( Tsukada & Nishiyama, 1980).
