NOTES: Lister (1911: 118) commented “The var. globosa is apparently rare; it has been obtained in New Hampshire,
U.S.A., in Chili, Japan and in Java” and in the specimen list “Java (Herb. Dr. Jahn, Berlin) …”, “ Japan (BM 1999)
…”, and “ Chili ( BM 2350 )”. In BM we found several samples but only BM 2350 coincides with the number in the original publicacion so we designate that as the lectotypus. The specimens W.G. F. 184 (Farlow, New Hampshire) and
KM 129 ( Minakata , Japan) are almost certainly the other material studied by G.Lister to describe this variety, so we consider them to be syntypes. There is also a slide of the Farlow material ( WGF 184 ) , and notes in notebook XXVII:
53, 142. We also found a box with over 20 small samples of Chilean material collected by Thaxter in 1905–1906 and sent by Farlow (197–221), with notes in notebook XXX: 119–130. The number 199 “BM” is a small fragment labelled
Diachaea leucopoda v. globosa /sessile, that could be a duplicate of BM 2350, since the letter “BM” is annotated in the left corner. This is a very variable species in terms of the fruiting body morphology and so the var. globosa has no taxonomic value.
