Type Locality: French Guiana.
Vernacular Names: Red-faced Spider Monkey.
Synonyms: Ateles ater F. Cuvier 1823 ; Ateles cayennensis (Fischer 1829) ; Ateles pentadactylus É. Geoffroy 1806 ; Ateles subpentadactylus Desmarest 1820 ; Ateles surinamensis (Fischer 1829) .
Distribution: Guianas and Brazil, north of the Amazon (east of Rio Negro).
