Heterobostrychus pileatus Lesne View in CoL *, 1899: 559. ( Figs 4 View FIGURE 4 J-L)
Distribution in mainland China: New record for mainland China, YN, Jinping, Mengla, 370m, 23.iv.1956, K.R. Huang (2♂, homeomorphic); Xishuangbanna, Damenglong, 650m, 10.iv.1958, I.R. Chang (1♂, homeomorphic) (IOZ).
Other distribution. India, Nepal, Burma, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Philippines. ( Liu & Beaver 2018).
Biology. Like other Heterobostrychus species , the species is also polyphagous and host trees have been listed by Beeson & Bhatia (1937).
Remarks. The male of the species has two types, heteromorphic and homeomorphic. The homeomorphic male has some characters which resemble those of the female. The frons is like that of the female; the prothorax is like that of the heteromorphic male but the anterior unci are replaced by a simple upcurved tooth; the elytra are like the heteromorphic male ( Lesne 1899, Stebbing 1914) (see also figs 4K&L). There are two or three morphological forms of male in species of both Bostrychopsis and Heterobostrychus making identification difficult ( Lesne 1899, Stebbing 1914).
