Distribution. Circumglobal in tropical through temperate seas (including Mediterranean Sea, Sea of Marmara, Black Sea) but excluding eastern and northwestern Pacific.

Conservation. IUCN: Global (VU: A2bd, 7 July 2014); Med. (NE). Capture and threats: Unknown. Occurrence: Rare. Significant increase in the last two decades. Low priority for conservation action.
