Taxonomy. First record from Lebanon as Lestidium sphyraenoides (Risso 1832) View in CoL by George et al. (1964: 13); subsequently recorded as Lestidiops sphyrenoides (Risso) View in CoL by Mouneimné (1977: 61); as Lestidiops sphyraenoides (Risso 1820) View in CoL by Mouneimné (2002: 89). Recent unpublished records from Beirut (3 March 2006). Material in collection: AUBM (OS1243; OS1244; OS3693).

Distribution. Mediterranean Sea, eastern Atlantic.

Conservation. IUCN: Global ( LC: 23 January 2013); Med. ( LC: 16 November 2007). Capture and threats: Unknown. Occurrence: Very rare. Low priority for conservation action .
