Destinoides Cai & He View in CoL
Destinoides Cai & He, 2000: 57 View in CoL
Type species: Destinoides fasciata Cai & He , by original designation (= D. latifrons (Walker)) .
Relatively large (13–14mm) and robust. Lateral margins of head and pronotum dark ( Figs 1 View FIGURES 1 – 9 , 10 View FIGURES 10 – 19 ). Anterior and posterior margins of pronotum with a black dot medially ( Figs 1 View FIGURES 1 – 9 , 10 View FIGURES 10 – 19 ). Anterolateral margins of scutellum black ( Figs 1 View FIGURES 1 – 9 , 10 View FIGURES 10 – 19 ).
Head and thorax densely punctate. Head about as wide as pronotum, flat and slightly upturned anteriorly. Eyes kidney-shaped. Crown flat, approximately as long as half width between eyes; anterior margin obtusely angled slightly distad of eye; coronal suture distinct ( Figs 1 View FIGURES 1 – 9 , 10 View FIGURES 10 – 19 ); ocelli near posterior margin of crown, closer to each other than to eyes ( Figs 1 View FIGURES 1 – 9 , 10 View FIGURES 10 – 19 ). Face as long as wide, concave in lateral view ( Figs 3 View FIGURES 1 – 9 , 12 View FIGURES 10 – 19 ); clypeal suture distinct; frontoclypeus broadened medially, then tapered apically; gena flat, with mesal margin deeply depressed; lora broad ( Figs 3 View FIGURES 1 – 9 , 12 View FIGURES 10 – 19 ); antennal ledges distinct, extending nearly to margin of crown ( Figs 3 View FIGURES 1 – 9 , 12 View FIGURES 10 – 19 ). Pronotum broad, slightly shorter than crown; anterior margin nearly straight, lateral margins nearly parallel ( Figs 1 View FIGURES 1 – 9 , 10 View FIGURES 10 – 19 ). Scutellum with scutellar suture concave deeply. Forewing veins reticulate apically, clavus densely punctate ( Figs 1 View FIGURES 1 – 9 , 10 View FIGURES 10 – 19 ). Fore femur with numerous irregularly arranged short setae. Hind tibiae flattened with five to seven stout anterodorsal (AD) setae; posterodorsal (PD) setae fine, anteroventral (AV) and posteroventral (PV) setae shorter and finer. First hind tarsomere with numerous long fine setae ventrally and two platellae apically.
Male 8th sternite about as long as 7th sternite, posterior margin strongly concave medially ( Figs 4 View FIGURES 1 – 9 , 13 View FIGURES 10 – 19 ).
Male pygofer tapering apically, narrowly subtriangular in lateral view, with well developed inner subapical process ventrally ( Figs 6 View FIGURES 1 – 9 , 15 View FIGURES 10 – 19 ). Anal tube with apical ventral process. Subgenital plates broad at midlength, tapered to rounded apex, with numerous short setae on ventral surface and slightly stouter setae near inner-lateral margins ( Figs 5 View FIGURES 1 – 9 , 14 View FIGURES 10 – 19 ). Aedeagal shaft slim and cylindrical, curved dorsally, with single or pair of processes apically. Style flat, curved ventrally at apex, footlike, with some fine setae on ventral edge, a few fine long setae on heel and a small subapical tooth lateral ( Figs 8, 9 View FIGURES 1 – 9 , 17 View FIGURES 10 – 19 ). Connective short ( Figs 9 View FIGURES 1 – 9 , 19 View FIGURES 10 – 19 ).
Distribution. China (Yunnan; Guangxi; Hainan; Xizang autonomous region), India (Assam), Singapore.
Remarks. The genus Destinoides is similar to Petalocephala Stål. It can be distinguished from the latter by: 1) crown shorter, about half as long as wide; 2) style slightly flattened laterally with small subapical lateral tooth; 3) aedeagus rather slender without sinuation or processes medially. Jones and Deitz (2009: 38) considered Destinoides doubtfully different from Petalocephala . Though some possible unique characters were noted, they appear to be variable characters.
