Subspecies Rupicapra pyrenaica subsp. ornata Neumann 1899
Distribution: Appenine Mtns ( Italy), Cantabrian Mtns ( Spain), and Pyrenees ( France and N Spain).
Conservation: CITES – Appendix I as R. pyrenaica ornata ; U.S. ESA – Endangered as R. rupicapra ornata ; IUCN – Endangered as R. p. ornata, Lower Risk (lc) as R. pyrenaica .
Discussion: Revised by Lovari and Scala (1980) and Scala and Lovari (1984). Regarded as a species distinct from R. rupicapra by Lovari (1985, 1987).
