Chorology.

The nominotypical subspecies of Stenus brunnipes is widely distributed in the West Palaearctic eastwards to Iran and Turkmenistan. In Iran, the subspecies seems to be restricted to the northern mountain ranges, where it was found in the eastern Elburz and the Turkmeno-Khorasanian mountains (Fig. 4 View Figures 1–6 ).

Biogeographical characterization.

Puthz (2012a: 288) considers Stenus brunnipes brunnipes to be Holomediterranean and we follow this hypothesis.
