Type species. Amblyseius limonicus Garman & McGregor, 1956: 11 .
Main distinguishing characteristics. Whitish to yellowish. Dorsal shield smooth (except in A. insolitus Nuvoloni
& Lofego, mainly ornamented with roundish elements). Dorsal shield pattern 10A:9B/JV-3:ZV (except in A. amazonicus Demite et al. , 10A:10B/JV-3:ZV, J1 present); setae s4, Z4 and Z5 usually longer than other setae, but never whip-shaped; ratio s4 / Z1>3.0 (r3 and R1 mentioned to be inserted on dorsal shield in A. tigrus Denmark & Evans). Posterior margin of sternal shield often lightly sclerotised and inconspicuous. Ventrianal shield vase-shaped; Jv1 next to anterior shield margin. Spermathecal calyx usually saccular, tubular or trumpet-shaped. Chelicera with inner margin of digits not deeply concave; fixed digit bearing 4–15 teeth about evenly distributed along the digit; movable digit with 3–5 teeth. Macrosetae present on legs I–IV, varying from sharp-tipped to capitate. Male ventrianal shield with three pairs of pre-anal setae arranged in a triangular pattern, or about in a transverse line; spermadactyl penile.
Remarks. Thirteen of the 24 species presently included in this genus have been reported from Brazil, being A. manihoti by far the most common, followed by A. limonicus . Worldwide, species of this genus have been reported from plants.
