Euseius Wainstein, 1962: 15 View in CoL .

Euseius View in CoL . — Moraes et al., 1986: 35, 2004b: 59; Chant & McMurtry, 2005b: 209, 2007: 118.

Type species. Seiulus finlandicus Oudemans, 1915: 183 .

Main distinguishing characteristics. Whitish to yellowish. Dorsal shield smooth or reticulate. Idiosomal setal pattern 10A: 9B: JV-3:ZV (in a single species, 10A: 9B: JV-3,4:ZV, with Jv4 absent); setae s4, Z4 and Z5 usually longer than other setae, but never whip-shaped; r3 and R1 occasionally on dorsal shield. Ventrianal shield usually vase-shaped (occasionally ovate), with pre-anal setae about transversely aligned (in a single species, with only two pairs), and Jv1 usually far from anterior shield margin. Peritreme usually extending to level between j3 and r3 (up to j 3 in E. inouei View in CoL ; occasionally up to j 1 in species from other countries). Spermathecal calyx most often saccular, tubular, but also bell-, cone-, cup- or trumpet-shaped. Chelicera with inner margin of digits deeply concave; fixed and movable digits with 3–7 and 0–2 teeth, respectively. Macrosetae present on leg IV and, in most species, also on legs I–III, varying from sharp-tipped to capitate. Male ventrianal shield with three pairs of pre-anal setae arranged in about a transverse line; spermadactyl heel-and-toe (usually with the toe bulbous and the heel reduced to a spur), but more commonly wand-shaped and penile.

Remarks. Twelve of the 214 species presently included in this genus have been reported from Brazil, the most common being E. concordis , followed by E. alatus and E. citrifolius . In fact, E. concordis is one of the two Amblyseiinae species most commonly reported from Brazil. Worldwide, species of this genus have been reported only from plants, which is compatible with the preference of Euseius species for feeding on pollen ( McMurtry et al., 2013).
