Type locality. Canoinhas [Lagôa], state of Santa Catarina and Bandeirantes and São Carlos, state of São Paulo.

Brazilian published records. States of Bahia, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Paraná (Chagas-Jr et al. 2007).

New records. None.

Remarks. Otostigmus cavalcantii belongs to the subgenus Dactylotergitius and was recently revised by Chagas-Jr et al. (2007). It is widely distributed in Brazil, but there are also records from Argentina. The male of O. cavalcantii presents a digitiform appendix at the posterior border of the tergite 21 as in O. caudatus from which it differs in the presence of a pointed sclerotized coxopleural process ( Bücherl, 1939a; Chagas-Jr et al., 2007).
