Material examined. East Azarbaijan province, Maragheh, 37°23′N 46°24′E, 1♀, 12.ix.2011. New record for Iran. General distribution. Circumtropical and subtropical. Probably of American origin ( Wood 2007), but widely spread through human activity.
Biology. Like most species of Hypothenemus , the species is polyphagous, attacking a wide range of trees and shrubs (Vega et al. 2015). It breeds not only in twigs and small branches, but also in seedpods, seeds and fruits ( Wood 2007). The new Iranian record is from Corylus avellana (Betulaceae) .
