Distribution in Iran. Guilan, Tehran, and other northern provinces ( Amini et al. 2013; Modarres Awal 1997 (as Hypothenemus lezhavai Pjatnitskii, 1929 and Hypothenemus aspericollis Wollaston, 1860 (see Ghahari & Colonelli 2012)), Iran (no locality cited) ( Balachowsky 1949; Mifsud & Knížek 2009; Knížek 2011).
General distribution. Circumtropical and subtropical. This is one of the most widespread and commonly collected scolytines in warmer parts of the world ( Wood 2007).
Biology. Recorded from the twigs, branches, seeds, and fruits of hundreds of plant species ( Wood 2007). In Iran it has been recorded from the following plants: Pistacia vera (Anacardiaceae) , Diospyros kaki , D. lotus (Ebenaceae) , Robinia pseudoacacia , Wisteria floribunda (Fabaceae) , Laurus nobilis (Lauraceae) , Ficus carica , Ficus sp., Morus alba , Morus sp. ( Moraceae ), Fraxinus excelsior , Olea europea (Oleaceae) , Pinus sp. ( Pinaceae ), Platanus orientalis (Platanaceae) , Cerasus avium , Prunus amygdalus , P. armeniaca , Prunus domestica , Pyrus communis (Rosaceae) , Citrus sp. ( Rutaceae ), Ailanthus altissima (Simaroubaceae) , Tilia begonifolia (Tiliaceae) ( Amini et al. 2013; Modarres Awal 1997).
