The xyleborines are inbreeding ambrosia beetles. Sibmating occurs within the maternal gallery before dispersal, and only the females disperse to new breeding sites. The sex ratio is strongly biased towards females, and the males are usually reduced in size, have reduced eyes, and are unable to fly ( Beaver et al. 2014; Kirkendall et al. 2015).
