Distribution in Iran. Fars ( Borumand 1998), Guilan ( Borumand 1998, Samin et al. 2011; Amini et al. 2012; Amini et al. 2013), generally distributed ( Modarres Awal 1997 as Scolytochelus multistriatus ), Iran (no locality cited) ( Knížek 2011).
General distribution. Throughout Europe and western Russia, North Africa, Turkey, Uzbekistan. Introduced into the Australian, Nearctic and Neotropical regions.
Biology. This species breeds primarily in species of Ulmus (Ulmaceae) , but has been recorded from several other families including Betulaceae , Fagaceae , Rosaceae and Salicaceae ( Michalski 1973) . Recorded in Iran from Ulmus sp. ( Modarres Awal 1997; Samin et al. 2011), Ulmus minor ( Amini et al. 2013) , sometimes on Carpinus betulus (Betulaceae) , Fagus orientalis (Fagaceae) , Fraxinus excelsior (Oleaceae) , Populus sp. ( Salicaceae ), Prunus domestica (Rosaceae) , Pyrus communis (Rosaceae) ( Modarres Awal 1997). The biology of the species is summarised by Smith & Cognato (2014), Santini & Faccoli (2015), and Smith & Hulcr (2015). The species is important as a vector of Dutch elm disease in both Europe and the USA (e.g. Furniss & Carolin 1977; Webber & Gibbs 1989; Webber 1990; Santini & Faccoli 2015).
Comments. Rhaphitelus ladenbergi (Ratzeburg 1844) ( Hymenoptera : Pteromalidae ) is a parasitoid of S. multistriatus on Fraxinus sp. in Iran ( Abd-Rabou et al. 2005). Meteorus consimilis (Nees, 1834) ( Hymenoptera : Braconidae ), recorded from northern Iran by Farahani & Talebi (2012), is also a parasitoid of Scolytus multistriatus (Marsham) ( Yu et al. 2012) . So we suggest the study of their host-parasitoid relationships.
