Scolytus orientalis Eggers, 1910
Distribution in Iran. Northern provinces ( Modarres Awal 1997).
General distribution. Southeastern Europe, Southern Russia, Ukraine, Turkmenistan. Taxonomy. This species has usually been considered a variety ( Michalski 1973) or subspecies ( Pfeffer 1995) of Scolytus multistriatus , but is listed a separate species by Stark (1952) and Knížek (2011).
Biology. It breeds in species of Ulmus and Zelkova (Ulmaceae) ( Stark 1952; Pfeffer 1995). Recorded in Iran from Ulmus pumila (Ulmaceae) ( Modarres Awal 1997). The biology is almost uninvestigated, but likely to be very similar to S. multistriatus .
Comments. Macromesus amphiretus Walker, 1848 ( Hymenoptera : Pteromalidae ) is a parasitoid of S. orientalis in Iran ( Abd-Rabou et al. 2005).
