Type data: Lectotype and paralectotype female (examined). Lectotype with the following data label: Cay [handwritten]\ Centris derasa Lep ♀ Cayennae [handwritten]\ Lectotype derasa det. J. S. Moure 1952 [handwritten] ( OUMNH). Paralectotype: Centris derasa Lep ♀ Cayennae [handwritten] ( OUMNH). Both specimens are dam- aged, with eyes and most of the metasoma missing. The lectotype is in slightly better condition, with the right antenna almost complete and the first two terga still attached to the rest of the body. Subsequent designation: Moure & Seabra (1960).

Type locality: French Guiana: Cayenne .

Centris emarginata Lepeletier, 1841 . 157, 158.

Type data: Lectotype female ( MSNT, not examined). Subsequent designation: Moure & Seabra (1960).

Type locality: French Guiana: Cayenne .

Comments: The synonymy between C. emarginata and C. derasa was originally proposed by Ducke (1910). The lectotype female of C. emarginata was designated by Moure & Seabra (1960) and is currently housed, along with a paralectotype female, at MSNT. None of those specimens were studied in this paper. According to Moure & Seabra (1960) there is a female in MNHP with original Lepeletier’s label “ emarginata ”, not providing additional information on if it belongs to the type series of that species. That specimen was found in MNHP and it has the following data label: emarginata [handwritten]\ [circular label] Cayenne Banon [handwritten]\ Museum Paris Cayenne Banon 9653-34 [printed]\ Type Lepelletier [handwritten]\ Centris derasa ♀ [handwritten] det. Friese 1898 [printed]\ [red label] Holotype [handwritten]. It is not clear if these labels are the same of those of the specimens studied by Moure & Seabra (1960) but its information agrees with that of the original description. Considering this, the female of C. emarginata housed at MNHP must belong to the type series of the species and should be recognized as paralectotype.

According to the original description, the type specimen of C. derasa belonged to Dejean’s collection, and those of C. emarginata to Serville.

This species occurs in northern South America and in the Caribbean islands of Trinidad and Tobago ( Moure et al., 2007).
