Centris (Centris) testacea Lepeletier, 1841 View in CoL
Centris testacea Lepeletier, 1841 View in CoL . 165, 166.
Type data: This species was described based on an unknown number of females housed at MNHP and collected in an undetermined locality. Two females were found there, one with the following labels: domingue [? indecipherable handwriting]\ Museum Paris [printed] St. Domingue [handwritten] Coll. Bosc 1828 [printed]\ Centris testacea Lep. ♀ [handwritten] det Friese 1898 [printed] ( MNHP), and the other one with the labels: Museum Paris [printed] St. Domingue [handwritten] Coll. Bosc 1828 [printed]\ Centris testacea Lep. ♀ [handwritten] det Friese 1898 [printed] ( MNHP) .
In OUMNH was found an unidentified female from Haiti without date of collection. Lepeletier (1841) mentioned the provenance of the type as “Patrie inconnue” therefore, none of the females found at MNHP and OUMNH must correspond to the type of C. testacea . The depository and the current condition of those specimens remain unknown.
Type locality: Unknown (“Patrie inconnue”).
Comment: The features mentioned in the original description, like the ferruginous coloration of the metasoma, the blackish hairs on vertex and the yellowish pubescence on the mesosoma allow recognizing this species. The identity of this species was correctly interpreted by Moure (1969) and Genaro (2015). According to this latter au- thor, C. testacea is endemic to the Hispaniola Island (Greater Antilles).
