Centris (Centris) poecila Lepeletier, 1841 View in CoL

Centris poecila Lepeletier, 1841 View in CoL . 154, 155. Type data: In OUMNH there is a female with only the first segment of the metasoma and a male eyeless and with a yellow spot on the anterior surface of the scape. Both specimens have the same provenance and identification labels of Lepeletier so probably they were collected together. However, the male specimen is not part of the type series, because Lepeletier (1841) only included females in the original description. The female specimen was previously designated lectotype by Moure in 1957, but that designation remained unpublished. This specimen is here formally designated as the lectotype fixing the identity of the species. The exemplar has the following data label: 25 [handwritten]\ La Hav. [handwritten]\ Centris poecila Lep View in CoL ♀ [handwritten]\ Lectotype poecila View in CoL [handwritten] det. J. S. Moure 19 [printed] 57 [handwritten] (OUMNH). In MNHP were found three females in the collection of O. Sichel with a label dated in 1867, not corresponding to primary types.

Type locality: Cuba (“ Ile de la Havane ”) .

Comment: Centris poecila was correctly interpreted by Snelling (1974) and Moure et al. (2007). Despite the existence of published distribution records in Central America, as well as in other Caribbean islands ( Genaro, 2007), apparently it only occurs in Cuba (pers. obs.).
