4. Orobanche alba subsp. xanthostigma Rätzel & Uhlich :

The existence of O. alba subsp. cuprea , as well as the recent description of O. alba subsp. xanthostigma Rätzel & Uhlich (2004: 198) , confirm the complexity of the Orobanche alba -group in the SE European-Caucasian-West Asian exclave. The distribution of O. alba subsp. xanthostigma was hitherto only imperfectly known: New records from Turkey (E. Gehroldt, pers. comm. 2011) and Bulgaria ( Stoyanov 2006a), as well as own findings give us the opportunity to present an updated distribution map ( Fig. 3 ). At least in the south-eastern and south central part of the Greater Caucasus ( Azerbaijan, Russia), O. alba subsp. xanthostigma is one of the most common broomrape species. The taxon very likely can also be found in Georgia and probably also in northern Iran.

M. Aghababyan has taken photos of the taxon from several places in Armenia, especially in the north of the country (Great Caucasus; det. Rätzel 20.12.2013), but unfortunately the precise localities—except for the one given below—could not be located in the context of this work. The reported occurrences from Bulgaria ( Stoyanov 2006a, on page 253) require confirmation .
