( Figs. 62–65 View FIGURE 62 )
Daidalotarsonemus jamesbakeri Smiley, 1969: 191 ; Smiley, 1972: 93; Lindquist, 1986: 320; Lin & Zhang, 2002: 61.
Diagnosis. Female: Gnathosoma : Palpal length about 1/4 length of gnathosoma. Dorsum: Coarse ornamentation present on prodorsum. Tergites C and D ornamented with longitudinal depressions. Setae v1, sc2, c1, c2 and h unmodified in shape. Setae v1 shorter than sc2 (~ 27 and ~ 31, respectively). Setae c1 as long as c2 (~ 20). Setae c1 inserted anteriad midlength of tergite C. Setae h distinctly shorter than c1 and c2 (~ 10). Setae d, e and f leaf-shaped, all lanceolate. Setae d and f identical in length (~ 37) and width (~ 5). Setae e 18 long and 8 wide. Setae f ~15 distant from each other, on rounded tubercles. Venter: Tegula truncate, slightly arched posteriorly.Apodemes distinct, except for prosternal apodeme. Apodemes 2 not fused to prosternal apodeme. Poststernal apodeme bifurcated anteriorly. Legs: sensory cluster of tibiotarsus I complete. Seta tc” of tarsus II robust and serrate. Male & larva: unknown.
Redescription:
Gnathosoma : somewhat rounded in ventral view, length 32 (31–34), maximum width 26 (25–27). Setae dgs 17 (16–19) and vgs 12 (11–14) serrate; palps length 13 (12–14), with two small subterminal setae and terminal projections. Pharynx length 19 (18–21), maximum width 9 (8–11).
Idiosoma—dorsum: length 210 (206–217), width at level of c1 120 (118–127). Prodorsal shield with coarse ornamentation posteriorly. Tergite C covered medially with waved and continuous ridges. Tergite D with coarse reticulation. Lengths of setae: v1 27 (24–29), sc1 14 (12–16), sc2 31 (29–35), c1 20 (18–24), c2 19 (17–21), d 37 (36–39), e 18 (16–20), f 37 (37–38) and h 10 (9–11). Maximum widths of expanded setae: d 5, e 8 and f 6. All dorsal setae serrate; except c1 and c2 smooth. Setae v1, sc2, c1, c2 and h unmodified; d, e and f lanceolate with two veins. All inserted on tubercles. Distances between dorsal setae: v1–v1 30 (29–33), sc2–sc2 56 (52–59), v1–sc2 27 (25–29), c1–c1 56 (55–58), c2–c2 108 (105–113), c1–c2 37 (36–40), d–d 46 (45–48), f–f 15 (13–18), e–f 15 (13–17) and h–h 24 (24–26). Setae sc2 inserted at same level as sc1.
Idiosoma—venter: setae 1a 7 (7–8); 2a 11 (9–13); 3a 14 (14–15) near anteromedial margins of apodemes 3; 3b 11 (10–12) on posterior ends of apodemes 4. Apodemes 1 conspicuous, fused to anterior end of prosternal apodeme. Apodemes 2 short and not fused to prosternal apodeme. Prosternal apodeme inconspicuous from junction with apodeme 1 to sejugal apodeme. Sejugal apodeme uninterrupted, with a median furrow. Apodeme 3 extending diagonally from proximity of base of seta 3a to anterior margin of trochanter III. Apodeme 4 extending diagonally from midlength of poststernal apodeme to base of seta 3b. Poststernal apodeme bifurcated anteriorly. Tegula 18 (16–22) wide and 4 (4–5) long; posterior margin slightly arched. Setae ps 14 (12–16) smooth.
Legs: Lengths: leg I 58 (56–61), leg II 64 (63–66), leg III 85 (84–87). Number of setae: leg I: 3-4-5(2)+7(1), leg II: 3-3-4-4(1), leg III: 1+2-4-4. Tarsal solenidion ω of tibiotarsus I 6. Sensory cluster of tibiotarsus I complete, solenidion φ1 3, slender, capitate; solenidion φ2 4, robust, slightly capitate; famulus k 6 (6–7); all inserted at approximately same level. Seta d of tibiotarsus I 30 (30–31), serrate. Solenidion ω of tarsus II length 5. Seta d of tibia II 24 (23–26), serrate. Femorogenu IV 18 (17–19); tibiotarsus IV 12 (12–13). Length of leg IV setae: v’ F 10 (9–12), v’ G 21 (19–23), v´ Ti 35 (34–37) and tc” 26 (44–47); all setae smooth, except for v’ G; v’ Ti tapered.
Type material deposition: holotype ♀ and four paratypes ♀ deposited at USNM ; one lectotype ♀ at CNC .
Locality: Previous Records: Ivanhoe, State of North Carolina, USA ( Smiley 1969 — type series locality). New Records: Ilex vomitoria ( Aquifoliaceae ), Gainesville, State of Florida, USA.
Remarks: The whole type series deposited at USNM is missing. Due to this, the specimen deposited at CNC is designated as lectotype for this species.
