STATUS AT MADANG. First record from Madang by Parenti & Allen (1991: 318). AMS, CAS and WAM material.

DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Philippines and New Guinea, north to Yaeyama Islands, south to Queensland ( Australia) and New Caledonia. Found in inshore areas, usually near mangroves; juveniles entering freshwater rivers and streams, 0– 4 m. Freshwater, transitional water and marine.

Terapon jarbua (Forsskål in Niebuhr, 1775) — Jarbua

STATUS AT MADANG. New record from Madang, based on a specimen collected by W.-J. Chen on Madang Market. AMS, CSIRO, NTUM and USNM material (AMS I.16751-028, I.16751-029, I.17084-007; CSIRO L.60; NTUM 10116; USNM 335491).

DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Red Sea and East Africa, Madagascar and western Mascarenes east to Palau, Samoa and Tonga, north to southern Japan, south to northern Australia and Lord Howe Island. Found in lagoons, in the vicinity of river mouths (including tidal pools), entering estuaries, rivers and streams, 0– 20 m. Freshwater, transitional water and marine.

Terapon theraps Cuvier in Cuvier & Valenciennes, 1829 —Largescaled terapon

STATUS AT MADANG. New record from Madang, based on AMS, SU and WAM material (AMS I.16749-002; SU 28231; WAM P.30617-009); previously reported by Herre (1933: 12) as Terapon puta (non Cuvier in Cuvier & Valenciennes, 1829).

DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Red Sea, East Africa and Madagascar east to Philippines and New Guinea, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Found in coastal water including mangrove areas and estuaries, 0– 10 m. Freshwater, transitional water and marine.
