Hemiramphus archipelagicus Collette & Parin, 1978 —Jumping halfbeak

STATUS AT MADANG. First record from Madang by Parin et al. (1980: 130). Specimens observed and photographed at St. CTR 23, CTR 25, CTR 26, CTR 29.

DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Western India east to Cook Islands, north to Philippines. In coastal waters; juveniles sometimes offshore, associated with floating objects, 0– 6 m. Marine.

Hemiramphus convexus Weber & Beaufort, 1922 —Convex halfbeak

STATUS AT MADANG. New record from Madang, based on AMS material (AMS I.16748-001). DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. East Africa east to Caroline Islands and New Ireland. In coastal waters, 0– 6 m. Marine.

Hyporhamphus balinensis (Bleeker, 1858) —Balinese garfish

STATUS AT MADANG. First record from Madang by Herre (1933: 12). SU and USNM material. DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Red Sea and East Africa east to Caroline and Cook islands, north to Philippines, south to Vanuatu. Found in schools, mainly above coral reefs, 0– 6 m. Marine.

Hyporhamphus dussumieri (Valenciennes in Cuvier & Valenciennes, 1847) —Dussumier's halfbeak STATUS AT MADANG. New record from Madang, based on AMS and USNM material (AMS I.16671-074; USNM 211355, 218695).

DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Seychelles east to Tuamotu Islands, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to northern Australia. In coastal waters, 0– 6 m. Marine.

Oxyporhamphus micropterus (Valenciennes in Cuvier & Valenciennes, 1847) —Bigwing halfbeak STATUS AT MADANG. New record from Madang, based on Oxyporhamphus similis (non Bruun, 1935) by Parin et al. (1980: fig. 47).

DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. East Africa east to Panama, north to southern Japan, south to northern Australia, 0– 6 m. Marine.

Rhynchorhamphus georgii (Valenciennes in Cuvier & Valenciennes, 1847) —Longbilled halfbeak STATUS AT MADANG. First record from Madang by Herre (1933: 12).

DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Persian Gulf and Arabian Sea east to Philippines and New Guinea, north to Taiwan, south to northern Australia, 0– 6 m. Transitional water and marine.
