scientific name

Melanopsis sancta Bourguignat, 1884
status

Melanopsis sancta Bourguignat, 1884

Original source.

Bourguignat 1884: 129.

Type locality.

"Eliasbrunnen bei Jericho" ( Kobelt 1880: 17) [Naẖal Elisha‘ (?) near Jericho], Palestine.

Remarks.

Introduced for Melania costata sensu Kobelt, 1880 (p. 17, pl. 188, fig. 1901), non Olivier, 1804. Bourguignat denoted authority as "Letourneux, 1882", but there is no evidence that the description really derived from that author. Heller et al. (2005: 248) considered the species as a junior synonym of Melanopsis saulcyi Bourguignat, 1853.
