Type Locality: "El Paso, [El Paso Co.], Texas [ USA]." .

Vernacular Names: Texas Antelope Squirrel.

Distribution: New Mexico and W Texas ( USA) to Coahuila, Chihuahua, and Durango ( Mexico).

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: Most divergent species of the genus ( Bolles, 1981), and probable primitive sister-species to remainder (Hafner, 1981). Reviewed by Best et al. (1990 b, Mammalian Species No. 365).
