Compsothespis australiensis Wood-Mason, 1889

Described from a single specimen collected in “northern Australia ” by Westwood ( Wood-Mason 1889; Tindale 1923), this species has not been recorded since. All other members of the subfamily are restricted to Africa ( Balderson 1984; Schwarz & Roy 2019), and as Westwood collected widely it is almost certain that the specimen is mislabelled. I conclude that the specimen was almost certainly also collected in Africa and hence that the species is not found in Australia. It is here removed from the Australian list.
