TYPE LOCALITY: U.S.A., S. South Carolina (probably) .

DISTRIBUTION: Texas ( U.S.A.) and adjacent Mexico, north to Manitoba ( Canada) east to the Atlantic Coast.

COMMENT: Subgenus Sciurus ; see Hall, 1981:427.

PROTECTED STATUS: U.S. ESA - Endangered as S. n. cinereus subspecies only.
