TYPE LOCALITY: Brazil, Mato Grosso, Cuyaba .
DISTRIBUTION: S.E. Colombia; Ecuador; N.E. Peru; Brazil; Bolivia.
COMMENT: Subgenus Hadrosciurus ; see Cabrera, 1961:374-379. Includes langsdorffi, pyrrhonotus, and tricolor; see Hershkovitz, 1959, J. Mammal., 40:346-347. Cabrera, 1961:376, and footnote, listed langsdorffi and pyrrhonotus as distinct species and included tricolor in igniventris , but Hershkovitz, 1959, was not incorporated. Moore, 1959, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 118:153-206, placed langsdorffi in Guerlinguetus (Hadrosciurus) urucumus (here included in spadiceus). Allen, 1915, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 34:269, included pyrrhonotus in Urosciurus, which Moore, 1959, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 118:153-206, placed as a subgenus in the genus Guerlinguetus.
