TYPE LOCALITY: U.S. S. R., Uzbekistan, 140 km N.W. of Bukhara, near Kara-Ata .

DISTRIBUTION: Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan ( U.S. S.R.); N.E. Iran; N. W. Afghanistan.

COMMENT: Related to African xerine squirrels ( Atlantoxerus and Xerus ); see Nadler and Hoffmann, 1974, Experientia, 30:889-890.
