TYPE LOCALITY: U.S. S. R., Voronezhsk. ObL, near Voronezh (City) .
DISTRIBUTION: Steppes of C. and S. Europe, including Poland, E. Rumania, Ukraine north to Oka River and east to the Volga River ( U.S. S.R.).
COMMENT: Subgenus Spermophilus ; see Gromov et al., 1965:212. See also comment under pygmaeus .
