TYPE LOCALITY: Canada, Saskatchewan, Carleton House .

DISTRIBUTION: N. Great Plains in S. Alberta, S. Saskatchewan, S. Manitoba ( Canada), Montana, North Dakota, N.E. South Dakota, W. Minnesota, and N.W. Iowa ( U.S.A.).

COMMENT: Subgenus Spermophilus ; see Hall, 1981:385. Formerly included elegans ; see comment under that species.
