CURRENT STATUS: valid species, unplaced to genus of Asilidae ( Martin & Papavero 1970: 88) View in CoL ; valid species, as Taurhynchus barbiventris ( Papavero 2009: 55) View in CoL .

REMARKS: Rondani (1850c: 187) described Asilus barbiventris from just the male sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length, from material received from E. Truqui. Nelson Papavero examined the MRSN material in 1972 and labeled the single male as “ holotype ” but, as far as we know, he never indicated this specimen as the holotype in any of his publication. We consider it as a syntype because Rondani did not specify he had a single specimen.
