ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1866d: 41 (key), 43 (description) [1867b: 125 (key), 127 (description)].

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Italia boreali et media . Parmae legitur … In Pedemontio et Insubria [in boreal (= northern) and central Italy … Parma … Piedmont and Insubria (= Lombardy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 2 ♂♂, syntypes ( MZUF: Box 28): Leria Desv. / bracata Rnd ., ♂, Parma / 1467; 2 ♀♀, syntypes ( MZUF: Box 28): Leria Desv. / bracata Rnd ., ♀, Parma / 1467.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Heleomyza modesta ( Meigen, 1838) ( Gorodkov 1984b: 33) .

REMARKS: Rondani (1866d: 43) described Leria bracata , without specifying either the number or the sex of the specimens, from material he had collected and also received from G. Genè and D’Arco, publishing the species first in a separate (1866b) and then in the journal version (1867b). Four syntypes were found in this study. Not included in the type series are an additional three MZUF specimens: a male labeled “1467 / modesta Mgn, Gall. ” because we interpret “Gall.” as Gallia [= France], which is not a type locality, and two females in the MZUF numbered “1467” because their labels are yellowish rather than the greenish color of Rondani’s original handwritten ones and are in a lower row in the Box. We treat these latter to be subsequent additions.
