Cryptochetidae View in CoL View at ENA
This small family of acalyptrate flies contains 34 predominantly tropical species, all but one belonging to the genus Cryptochetus Rondani, 1875 ( Marshall 2012, Evenhuis & Pape 2020). There are no endemic Nearctic or Neotropical species. Rondani (1875b) described one Palaearctic species, considered as valid ( Nartshuk 1984 a, Canzoneri et al. 1995) in his “ Stirps Agromyzinae ”. The family Cryptochetidae was proposed by Brues & Melander (1932). The type material has presumably been lost.
