Teleopsis breviscopium Rondani, 1875 View in CoL View at ENA
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1875c: 443.
TYPE LOCALITY: “ Insula Bonae Fortunae (Borneo) , Provincia Sarawak [ Bona Fortuna Island, Sarawak Province, Borneo]” ( Rondani 1875c: 421).
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, lectotype ( MSNG): Sarawak / Typus / Teleopsis breviscopium Rond. / Teleopsis breviscopium n° 39 / Teleopsis breviscopium / Teleopsis breviscopium Rondani 1875 , distinct species identification H.R. Feijen, 2004.
PARALECTOTYPE NOT EXAMINED: 1 ♀ ( MZUF: Box 72): Teleopsis breviscopium n. / Borneo, Sarawak 1865–66, Coll. G. Doria / [no identification number].
CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Teleopsis discrepans (Walker,1856) ( Steyskal 1977c: 34) View in CoL ; valid species ( Feijen 1998: 51).
REMARKS: Rondani (1875c: 443) described Teleopsis breviscopium , without specifying either the number or the sex of the specimens, but giving a single measurement of length, despite there being two specimens in the type series found in this study, from material collected by G. Doria and O. Beccari. Guiglia (1957: 197) and Feijen (1998: 51) reported a “ holotype ” in the MSNG without knowing of an additional female in the MZUF, which brings the original syntype series to two specimens. In his original description, Rondani did not explicitly refer to a single specimen therefore Guiglia’s “ holotype ” specimen must be considered as the lectotype (I.C.Z.N. 1999: Article 74.6). The additional female in the MZUF not examined by Guiglia is a paralectotype.
