CURRENT STATUS: senior (but invalid) synonym of Cacoxenus indagator Loew, 1858 View in CoL [suppressed by I.C.Z.N.] ( Spencer & Martinez 1987: 267, I.C.Z.N. 1997: 195, Deeming 1988: 81, Bächli et al. 1995: 3, Brake & Bächli 2008: 258).
REMARKS: Rondani’s (1856: 121) key for the genus Domomyza Rondani, 1856 lists Domomyza cincta as the type species for the genus but he did not provide a detailed description, type locality, number or sex of the specimens. Deeming (1988: 81) stated that K.A. Spencer examined the MZUF material and designated lectotypes, but Spencer & Martinez (1987: 267) did not report any lectotype. Deeming (1988: 81) unambiguously selected a single specimen (the MZUF male labeled as lectotype) to serve as the name-bearing type and therefore he designated a lectotype. Deeming (1988) did not mention an additional specimen in the OUMNH (this additional specimen is a paralectotype). An additional two MZUF specimens numbered “1864” are not included in the type series because their labels are yellowish rather than the greenish color of Rondani’s original handwritten ones and are in a lower row in the Box, for which reason we treat them to be subsequent additions. Sidorenko (1996: 22) requested suppression of both the generic and specific names published as the binomen Domomyza cincta Rondani, 1856 . The I.C.Z.N. (1997: 195 [Opinion 1879]) suppressed both names.
