TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Italia media [central Italy]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 4 ♂♂, syntypes (one covered with mold) ( MZUF: Box 42): Orthochyle [sic!] Latr. / italica Rnd. , ♂ / 2299; 3 ♀♀, syntypes ( MZUF: Box 42): Orthochyle [sic!] Latr. / italica Rnd. , ♀ / 2299; 1 ♀, syntype ( MZUB: Box 343): 30 05 / Orthochile italica Rond. , ex agro parmensi / italica Rndn. , ♂ ♀, Parma; 1 ♂, syntype ( MZUB: Box 343): 30 06 / Orthochile italica Rond. , ex agro parmensi.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Ortochile unicolor Loew, 1850 ( Negrobov 1991: 95) ; junior synonym of Ortochile nigrocoerulea Latreille, 1809 ( Yang et al. 2006: 182).

REMARKS: Rondani (1859a: 316) described both sexes of Orthochile italica without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens. Nine syntypes were found in this study. An additional 13 MZUF specimens numbered “2299” are not included in the type series because their labels are yellowish rather than the greenish color of Rondani’s original handwritten ones and are in a lower row in the Box, for which reason we treat them to be subsequent additions. This nominal species was described under the generic name “ Orthochile ”, which is an “incorrect subsequent spelling of Ortochile Latreille, 1809 or subsequent usage of Orthochile Blanchard, 1845 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 133).
