CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Leopoldius signatus View in CoL (Wiedemann in Meigen, 1824) ( Chvála & Smith 1988: 247, Rivosecchi & Scaramozzino 1995: 2, Stuke 2017: 59).
REMARKS: Rondani (1843d: 35) described both sexes of Leopoldius erostratus without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length. Stuke (2017: 59) reported the syntype series of six specimens in the MZUF as being comprised of five males and one female. We found six syntypes in the MZUF, one syntype in the MSNC and one syntype in the MZUB.
