Mimosciara lestremina Rondani, 1840 View in CoL
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1840b: 26.
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in collibus parmensibus [ Parmese hills ( Italy)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 2 specimens, syntypes (sex not determinable, only the part of a wing on each pin) ( MZUF: Box 65): Mimosciara Rnd. / lestremina Rnd. / [no identification number].
CURRENT STATUS: doubtful species of Cecidomyiidae ( Skuhravá 1986: 295) View in CoL ; junior synonym of Catocha latipes Haliday, 1833 View in CoL ( Gagné 2010: 25, Gagné & Jaschhof 2017: 34).
REMARKS: Rondani (1840b: 26) described Mimosciara lestremina without specifying the exact number of the specimens, providing specific characters for the male and female, but giving a single measurement of length, despite there being more than one specimen in the type series found in this study. The species has no identification number. Gagné & Solinas (1996: 73) reported that “fragments of the thoraxes of two specimens, each on a separate pin, are all that remain of this nominal species. Each pin bears a tiny sketch of a wing, one representing a possible sciarid, the other a Catocha latipes , similar to that drawn for Mimosciara lestremina in Rondani 1846 [see Rondani, 1846: tav. III]”. They suggested designating the holotype of Catocha latipes Haliday, 1833 as the neotype of Mimosciara lestremina . All that remains of the type material are the two pins with just the wing sketches and no thorax fragments in the MZUF.
