ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1861e: 70 (key), 71 (description).
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Etruria … in Regno Neapolitano [ Etruria (= Tuscany) … Neapolitan Kingdom (= environs of Naples) ( Italy)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 2 ♂♂, syntypes ( MZUF: Box 15): Rhynchomyia [sic!] Desv. / audax Rnd. / 806.
CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Rhyncomya impavida ( Rossi, 1790) View in CoL ( Schumann 1986: 55, Pape et al. 1995: 11).
REMARKS: Rondani (1861e: 71) described Rhynchomya audax from two males: “ Duo specimina possideo mascula, unum a D. Pecchioli in Etruria captum , aliud a Prof. A. Costa in Regno Neapolitano [I have two male specimens, one collected in Etruria by V. Pecchioli, the other in Neapolitan kingdom by Prof. A. Costa]”. We found both syntypes in this study .
