Caenosia obscuripes Rondani, 1866 View in CoL
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1866a: 196 (key), 203 (description).
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in planitie parmensi [ Parmese plains ( Italy)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, syntype ( MZUF: Box 24): Caenosia Mgn / obscuripes Rnd. , Parma / 1292.
CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Limnospila albifrons (Zetterstedt, 1849) View in CoL ( Pont 1986b: 193, Gorodkov et al. 1995: 15).
REMARKS: Rondani (1866a: 203) described Caenosia obscuripes from a few females without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length: “ foeminas rarissimo inveni [very rarely I found females]”. We found just one female syntype in this study. A male in the MZUF numbered “1292” is not included in the type series because of its sex. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name “ Caenosia ”, which is an incorrect subsequent spelling of Coenosia Meigen, 1826 ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 43).
