Heringia zetterstedtii Rondani, 1856 View in CoL
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1856: 53.
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Suecia [ Sweden]” (Zetterstedt 1843: 844) [type locality for Pipiza heringii Zetterstedt, 1843 ] .
TYPE MATERIAL: see Remarks.
CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Heringia heringii (Zetterstedt, 1843) ( Peck 1988: 83) .
REMARKS: Rondani (1856: 53) proposed Heringia as a new genus and identified Pipiza heringii Zetterstedt, 1843 as the type species. Having used the species epithet for the new nominal genus and thinking that the name Heringia heringii was incorrect, Rondani incorrectly substituted it with Heringia zetterstedtii . Schiner (1860: 260, 1864: 111), Verrall (1901: 24), Bezzi & Stein, (1907: 7), Kertész (1910: 11), Lundbeck (1916: 62) and Sack (1928: 20) placed this name in synonymy with Pipiza heringii while Kowarz (1885: 241) considered it as a valid species. The type material for Heringia zetterstedtii will be the same as for the name it was proposed to replace, i. e., Pipiza heringii . For this latter species Claussen et al. (1994: 316) designated a lectotype and a paralectotype in the MZLU. Goeldlin de Tiefenau (in Claussen et al. 1994: 318) incorrectly considered the single Heringia zetterstedtii female in the MZUF as the holotype.
